What is an Unshaven FUE Hair Transplant?

Discover Unshaven/ Undetectable Follicular Unit Extraction

With a U-FUE hair transplant, the U simply stands for unshaven or undetectable. A traditional FUE is performed with the donor area shaved to have access to the maximum number of hairs possible to harvest. The U-FUE however, is the next advancement in the treatment of hair loss.

The U-FUE Procedure

Like a traditional FUE transplant, hairs are extracted one by one from a donor area.  The U-FUE treatment, on the other hand, is more delicate and requires huge skill on the part of your surgeon to spot the healthiest hairs. Once the hair is extracted, the strands of hair are cut off, leaving only the grafts to be implanted.

The grafts are then blended into the thinning or balding areas in such a way as to match the natural growth characteristics of your original hair.

Due to the minimally invasive nature of the procedure, patients often fall asleep while grafts are removed and transplanted, often while watching a DVD.

Why choose U-FUE?

Most standard hair transplants require the patient to have part or all of their head shaved so that surgeons can transplant a larger hair graft and achieve more permanent results.

But the thought of having their head shaved for many people can be a daunting prospect.

With the U- FUE however, patients are able to keep most of their hair intact whilst experiencing quality care.  Any surgeon who performs this procedure has to be more skilled than a surgeon who performs standard FUE and FUT hair transplants.

Who is it for?

Many people, particularly those in representative occupations and celebrities requires a hair transplant without shaving, due to the nature of their job. The U- FUE allows patients to return to work shortly after without anyone noticing they’ve undergone the treatment.

Patients will also enjoy a gradual and less noticeable hair restoration over the course of the next 12 months.

Hair transplants for patients with long hair

Some patients are put off having an FUE procedure because they are worried that they will have to fully shave the back and sides of their head in order for the surgeon to harvest the donor grafts. This may be the case.

With an FUE transplant, only a very small section of the back or side of the scalp is shaved to obtain the donor hair. With a U- FUE, this is eliminated entirely; making it perfect for those with longer hair.

Patients can keep their original hair in the same style and length, during and after the procedure

U-FUE Hair Transplant Cost

Many people opt for FUT as U- FUE is more expensive. This is because unshaven hair transplants are more labour intensive. However, we believe that the best procedures are the ones most suitable for each patient. Read about the other hair transplant options that we offer here.
