Adeleh’s Incredible Story Will Move You To Tears

POSTED: 31 January 2013

One of the most remarkable patients we have ever treated at Crown Clinic is Adeleh Deane.

Adeleh, 34, is a beautiful woman who is happily married to a lovely guy and enjoying the time of her life.

Through no fault of her own, her childhood was a bit of a nightmare.

That is because she was born intersex - a blend of both sexes.

It meant that while she had the penis of a boy, she also had other physcial characteristics which are unique to women.

She was brought up as a boy, called Adam, but always felt as though she was girl and craved a sex change from an early age.

It wasn't till she was 26 that  she was properly diagnosed and able to have a sex change on the NHS.

But Adeleh still wasn't happy with the way she looked and wanted cosmetic surgery.

She ended up going to a cowboy surgeon in Thaliand who wrecked her hair.

It was then that the Channel 4 TV show Embarrassing Bodies stepped in to help.

They sent Adeleh to the Crown Clinic and we were able to give her a hair transplant - filling out her hairline and transforming her appearance.

You can watch Adeleh's extraordinary story on 4oD - Channel 4's catch-up service.

And you can read Adeleh's story in Take A Break magazine's current Spring 1 edition.

Take A Break - Britain's best selling women's magazine - has done terrific explaining what happened to Adeleh.

Dr Shahmalak tells Take A Break: "I'm very glad we were able to help Adeleh. Patients should be very careful about going abroad for treatment - they can put themselves in danger in the hands of unregulated surgeons."
