The term Follicular Unit Extraction refers to one of the two main ways follicular units are extracted in the process of hair transplantation. These naturally occurring units are usually comprised of between one and four hairs. The other common method of follicular unit extraction, strip harvesting, involves taking a strip of skin containing hairs and then dissecting it afterwards. Both methods form the basis of follicular unit transplantation.

Scarring from FUE takes the form of small, typically white ‘pits’, while strip harvesting leaves a linear scar where the donor skin was removed.

There are several key advantages to Follicular Unit Extraction. There is no limitation of carrying out strenuous exercise after the procedure has taken place and makes it theoretically possible to harvest from other parts of the body. Where a scalp is too tight for the strip harvest technique, FUE can offer an effective alternative to FUT. The dimensions of the donor area can be expended with FUE (although not necessarily increasing the number of grafts unless carried out as part of an FUT procedure). Finer hair from the nape of the neck can be used for the hairline and for eyebrows using the FUE technique.

Not all patients are suitable candidates for FUE. Due to the greater donor area, there is a risk that lower and upper parts of donor areas are more likely to bear scars and that hair taken from borderline areas are not truly permanent. There tends to be a lower yield from FUE compared to FUT, and grafts are more susceptible to damage. It is more challenging to gain a natural distribution of follicular units and microscopic dissection may be required.

Dr Shahmalak is highly skilled and experienced in the realm of Follicular Unit Extraction, having ensured patients from across the UK and from countries around the world have benefitted from the procedure. If you want more information on FUE procedures, contact Crown Cosma Clinic today. If you wish, you can also complete our online consultation form. There is no obligation and your information will be treated in the strictest confidence.

Hair Transplant these days are becoming more and more popular with state of the art procedures and that is one of the reasons high profile people and celebrities are entertaining the idea of Hair Transplants.

More recent examples of this type would be Channel 4’s Embarrassing Bodies doctor, Dr Christian Jessen, Dragon’s Den Duncan Bannatyne, Shaun Williamson of Eastenders aka Barry Evans and more recently John Travolta and James Nesbitt who has confirmed “it has changed my life”.

Apart from Hair Transplants few celebrities are opting for non-permanent solutions such as laser and artificial hair fibres i.e. Ryan Giggs, Graham Gooch and Shane Warne.

Few of the high profile cricketers and footballers who are not yet ready for Hair Transplant are opting to take the preventative method – known as Finasteride, for example Wayne Rooney. This medication is Sports Governing Body approved – so it is safe for any sportsman.

As Hair Transplants are getting more and more popular with the celebrities, hence the cost has become more and more affordable – I think this is the best way to achieve a more youthful appearance.

The common expression – “Blue-Eyed-Baby” emphasises the importance of the eyes in the overall perspective of our face right from the childhood. Besides their protective role, the eyelashes are no less important ornamentals to our eyes. Their size, colour and texture play an extremely important role in cosmetic terms. Human eyebrows consist of two hair arches above the level of our eyes and play an important decorative role of our face.

In consideration to the above-mentioned points, the eyebrows and eyelashes have always been given their due importance. As the societies are getting more and more beauty conscious, the need for their proper care and maintenance is also increasing. Presently the cosmetic treatment of eyebrows and eyelashes has become a routine job especially for women folk.

Nature generally provides the normal eyebrows and eyelashes but in some cases, due to some accident or the infection of hair inhabiting fungi and bacteria they get disfigured or not properly developed. In such situation, the face looks odd and unattractive and there is a feel of something missing. Hair grafting is the only answer to regain lost beauty. It also provides an appropriate answer for those who are not satisfied with their existing eyebrows or eyelashes or both. In this connection, it is worth mentioning that would-be patients require the services of a hair transplant surgeon on the priority basis like the one required for reducing the tummy and the hips and enlarging the chest specifically at the time of marriage. Unfortunately, there is great dearth of hair transplant surgeons particularly those specialising in eyebrow and eyelashes.

There are many common causes of hair loss, and contrary to popular belief it is a condition that can affect women just as much as it does men. Thanks to advances in surgical methods, those suffering from hair loss often seek out information about hair transplants, a solution that can be used for many causes of hair loss experienced by men and women. Hair transplants are often carried out in conjunction with other hair restoration techniques such as medication and cosmetic applications.

This type of surgery is not only able to treat thinning or balding on the head, it can also be applied to other areas where a patient is suffering from hair loss. This includes the eyebrows, beard area and chest. The precise techniques used for hair transplants can replicate the angle and direction of hair growth from individual follicles to provide the most natural solution for hair loss yet.

There are many different causes of hair loss, aside pattern baldness there are a number of different things that can trigger the loss. Some people may find that after a major illness or surgery that they may experience some hair loss, this is directly associated with stress and is only a temporary hair loss.

People with hormonal problems may find that this is another cause of hair loss; if you suffer from an overactive or underactive thyroid gland then you may loose your hair. Hormone imbalance is also another of the major causes of hair loss.

Pregnant women also notice hair loss after the birth of their baby, usually around three months this can occur. This is again due to hormones, but after the initial loss women will find that the hair grows back and the hair cycle begins again.

Occasionally causes of hair loss can be due to an underlying disease, such as diabetes or lupus. This is why it is important to seek medical advice if you notice any unexplained excessive hair loss.
