Wayne Rooney’s Hair Transplant

Thursday, June 9th, 2011

Manchester United and England football star Wayne Rooney recently revealed the results of his new hair transplant shortly before jetting off to Barbados with girlfriend Colleen. At 25, Rooney is a fairly young candidate for a hair restoration procedure, but his decision demonstrates the changing attitudes towards hair restoration in society as a whole.

Dr ShahmalakWhile the football star undeniably is a well funded young man, hair transplants are now within the reach of ordinary people too. With treatment plans starting at £3000, depending on the number of grafts needed, Crown Cosma Clinic are leading in the way in UK-based, high quality hair restoration procedures that make a real difference to people’s lives.

What is Follicular Unit Extraction?

Thursday, May 26th, 2011

The term Follicular Unit Extraction refers to one of the two main ways follicular units are extracted in the process of hair transplantation. These naturally occurring units are usually comprised of between one and four hairs. The other common method of follicular unit extraction, strip harvesting, involves taking a strip of skin containing hairs and then dissecting it afterwards. Both methods form the basis of follicular unit transplantation.

Scarring from FUE takes the form of small, typically white ‘pits’, while strip harvesting leaves a linear scar where the donor skin was removed.

Cancer doesn’t always have to mean hair loss….

Thursday, July 22nd, 2010

Hair loss for anyone is distressing enough.  But when you have the added stress of Cancer and the associated treatment of chemotherapy – this can lead to severe psychological distress.  We recently learnt of an associate who had unfortuantely suffered from Cancer,  but somehow managed to keep all of her hair.

Surprisingly enough, she told us it was because of the scalp cooling that allowed her to keep her hair during chemotherapy – which we all know is the most traumtatic side effects of the drugs given during treatment.

So we looked into it, and discovered how successful this treatment really is.

Embarrassing Bodies Dr. has his very own hair transplant…..

Thursday, May 6th, 2010

I was pleasantly surprised to hear from Dr Christian Jessen in April 2009 to discuss his own “embarrassing illness”.

When I first saw him at my Harley Street clinic about a year ago, he felt very self conscious of his high forehead and temples.  I felt that he was not very comfortable in himself although a very confident man.

He had already decided in his mind before the consultation had even started that he would have his hair transplant procedure.

Following  from a patient who had his hair transplant on Embarrassing Illnesses in 2008, Dr Jessen was so impressed with his results, he decided to make contact with me.
