Nigella, Superfoods and Treating Female Hair loss

Monday, February 13th, 2012

Recently, the media have been reporting on the apparent thinning of Nigella Lawson’s hair. Whilst the stories covered some of the common causes of female hair loss, little was said about the advances in female hair loss treatment.

A common cause of female hair loss, and the speculative reason behind Nigella’s thinning hair is lack of nutrients. When women diet –as Nigella has successfully been doing, the restricted nutritional intake means that the hair is likely to suffer. This is because replenishing these cells is not considered to be as important as cells in other parts of the body. The solution for this type of female hair loss would then be to consume nutrient rich foods such as eggs and avocados.

Female Hair Loss: What is Telogen Effluvium?

Wednesday, April 6th, 2011

There are a wide range of causes for female hair loss, but one of the most common is telogen effluvium. It is distinct from other types of hair loss in that its effects can be seen as a wide spread shedding of hairs, not only on the scalp, but elsewhere on the body too. The condition usually arises when the body’s physical or hormonal systems come under a high degree of stress, or as a reaction to some forms of medication.

It is common for the condition to worsen fairly quickly, before improving over the following six months. In some rare cases, the condition can become chronic.
